Data transfer via SMS-messages

When the hunter chooses the request update-function on the Pointer Dog-GPS navigator, the navigator sends a special SMS-message to the dog's GSM/GPS transmitter. In response the dog's transmitter sends its location, direction and speed of motion and battery condition data within 15-20 s. in a special SMS-message that the Pointer GSM/GPS navigator translates into the dogs location on the navigator. Two messages are therefore used in the transaction: one to the dog's transmitter and one from the dog to the hunter's navigator.

The dog's transmitter can also be set to send its location at set intervals. In this case the hunter's navigator sends the request with a single SMS-message. The dog's transmitter then responds automatically with the requested intervals and no further requests are necessary.

In practice the hunter requests the location of the dog about 10-20 times during a single day of hunting.

When considering the costs, it is good to keep in mind the savings gained in the amount driving. There is no need to search for the dog uselessly. Use has shown that up to several thousands of kilometers of driving can be saved during just one hunting season.

In Finland:
Saunalahti - Pointer   

Saunalahti: Pointer has negotiated with Saunalahti a new Saunalahti - Pointer package based on the Tekstari connections. Now the monthly fee covers 1000 dog location requests and no additional costs are charged.

The monthly fee is 9 euros per device.

The hunter's navigator can function as a regular GSM mobile phone. Saunalahti is very competitive in its price and it has the best GSM coverage, by using the Sonera's network.

Typically an active hunter makes about 200-500 position requests / month. More information on the costs and coverage:

In Sweden and Norway:
a full package from Telia

Pointer has negotiated with Maingate-Telia a full package where the hunter acquires himself a new or keeps his old Telia SIM-card and the dog receives a new Telia connection.

The starting costs for the dog's transmitter are 890 kr which includes the opening cost 150 kr, the early costs 290 kr and 450 kr= 600 prepaid SMS-messages. Additional SMS-messages cost 0,75 kr/message, provided that the hunter also has a Telia connection. SMS-messages for connections from other operator cost a minimum of 1,5 kr/message.

The hunters navigator can be used as a regular GSM mobile phone. The costs vary between operators. If the hunter is using a Telia connection, a request for a update costs 1,5 kr and the reply 0,75 kr = 2,25 kr. When using the tracking function, the request costs 1,5 kr and all of the replies 0,75/reply.

The costs of use are typically about 15-30 kr/huntingday.
